Carrie Dorski is an artist, educator, and arts administrator passionate about helping creatives turn their passions into sustainable businesses. As Manager of Community Education and the Artisan and Business Center at NWTC, she supports artists through innovative programming, professional development, and entrepreneurship resources. With a background in mixed media art and years of experience in arts leadership, Carrie specializes in empowering artists with practical tools for organization, efficiency, and growth. She believes that embracing professional practices can fuel—not stifle—creativity, and she’s dedicated to demystifying the business side of being an artist.

Attorney Elizabeth T Russell practices copyright, trademark and arts law. The Visual Artists Rights Act (“VARA”) was little known, for many years following its adoption in 1990. Lately, however, it seems to dominate headlines – particularly in connection with public-facing murals. Let’s talk about what VARA does and what it does not do; who it helps and who it does not; and how both sides of the table might approach its management in the context of public art commissioning.

Jacquelyn Tolksdorf of Collect & Gather will go over the dark side of letting "business" burn you out creatively. After a 16 year career in graphic design and marketing, she walked away at her most successful point in her business. Why? It was killing her. Through a tale of "what not to do" explore what is sucking the life out of you and ultimately your success.

Hannah Ricke will round off this panel discussion talking about life after burnout, renewing yourself, and will aim to invigorate your living spirit toward a fiercer beauty than your soul has ever known before.
